Opinions on Cruise Control
I'm to the point in restoration of my 81 that I'm looking at the cruise control. It came factory with a vacuum servo missing the control module. I do happen to have a newer stepper motor controlled servo with the control module from my rust bucket 1982. Is there any consensus on which is the more reliable of the two? I'm not fixated on keeping the car 100% original since I don't have the original plate and data cards.

I would go with the electronic one -- that way, you eliminate yet another source of vacuum leaks .

Electronic version is no doubt more serviceable. Spare units are more plentiful. Mine is the vac version and it works great to this day. Last time i was browsing for new parts i saw a replacement vac actuator for mega bucks and im sure thers fewer good used units out there.

...of course, it sounds way cooler to say that your cruise control is vacuum controlled!

I would stick with the vacuum operated one...maybe be some not so nice words said while attempting a upgrade install. Mine works but like all the rest the amp is bad but I can accelerate using the little lever....thought about fixing it....but I don't often go on a long enough drive to cruise...
