OM616/OM615 IP Questions...
Two questions:
On "OK TO REMOVE?", what is that part called? If I can remove it, how should I clean it (reason for removal)?

Top I believe is a delivery valve holder. Shouldn't need to remove unless you are rebuilding the delivery valves

The whole thing is covered in crud, and the delivery valve holders have joined the party. I'd like to clean them before I sell the monster...

If you are selling it, then clean the surface crud off, don't get cleaner in the delivery valve. You can pull them apart.. There are some great write ups on it here

Don't pull them, you can mess up your timing if they don't go right back exactly. Cap off any openings and spray it down.

Okay. How about the lower circle? What is that? A mounting bracket? Is it supposed to look like that?

But, it may be the correct one. That bracket should not cause an issue if you decide to sell the Fuel Injection Pump.

Where did you get the pump? find it some place or pull it off a engine?
f you pulled it, then you would know where the bracket mounted. The bracket is probably to take the weight off the mounting bolts from vibration. I would have cleaned the engine or at least the pump area before removing it. less chance to get grit into the fuel inlet areas. Charlie

If you remove the delivery valve holders, you should have new rubber O rings and new copper crush washers to rebuild them. They should be torqued to a specific procedure to set the crush washer.
Normally you would remove the delivery valve holders, unless you want to check the IP timing. If crud has entered the pump through the delivery valve pipe connections, that is something to worry about and then it is best to take the delivery valve holders off. The other thing is a bracket to attach the pump to the engine. |
