Need a source for inner door panel clips (W126)
 

Does anyone know of a source for these clips? They are used to hold the door panel insert to the inside door panel.

Depending on how many you need, last time I needed a couple they were available from the dealer cheap....

OR you could try posting a 'want to buy' (WTB) ad in the Mercedes used parts for sale and wanted subforum. There are a number of members here who may have a few in a jar somewhere... or who can pull some for you some time when they visit the pick n'pull.

You might try Clips and Fasteners.com. I recently purchased some exterior body molding clips for my 1995 E300D from them via Amazon. Quick shipment.

The clips were packaged in an Auveco Products box. They have an amazing assortment of products and might be worth a look as well.

Yes, I have checked their site, and they do have tons of clips and fasteners. But not these.

I found the Auveco web site. Is it possible that you still have the box and even better their part number?

I'm in the same boat Mike. I'm going to need the same clips for 380SE doors. And you're right, they don't even feature on

But also...

Mike, did you remove the clips yourself? I'd like to know how to get the current clips off the door without damaging anything (other than the clips, that is). I'm cautious because I don't know how they retain below the wood, and I don't want to risk damaging the wood or the plastic (???) they connect to.

I removed the driver's door panel to get at the in-door mechanisms. With the panel off I noticed a lot of black powdery crap running out from behind the wooden part as I moved the panel around. It looks like the droppings from a billion cockroachs (no, it isn't). Seems to me there was a foam type installation material between the wood and the MB-Tex which has broken down into cocky s**t.

Doesn't make much sense to put the panel back without doing everything I can to make it right.

So...

1. How to remove the clips?

3. Where to get replacements?

2. What's a suitable replacement for the insulating foam or whatever it was?

I've looked but cannot find your door panel clips in the Auveco catalog.

I do have the box and part number of the clips which I ordered but they are not the clips you are referring to. Sorry if there was confusion.

The clips that I have pictured hold the central door panel to the plastic door inner frame. The clips go through rectangular slots and "bite" into plastic ribs.

1. To remove the clips, I used a small (1/8" width) flat screwdriver and carefully opened the jaws of the connector to slide them off. On some with no access I had to just pry them straight out as best as I could.

3. I don't have a line on replacements yet. All of mine came out OK and can be re-used, but there are other points where I could use more and hold the inner trim of the door together better (hoping for less noise).

2. I don't know anything about the foam. But again, for noise reduction, I am applying 8" wide window sealant "tape" on the inside of the door metal skin while the door is apart. These door skins will boom like a drum; I want to deaden them a bit.

116 988 05 78 is the part number. I can get you a hand full off old door panels. How many do you need.

They want $17.50 for each clip. :mad:
