W115 auto trans into an early '79 w123 300d?

Question: I have a w115 auto trans from a '75 300d and a gentleman who wants to put my working trans into his '79 w123 300d. Same trans or is the w115 trans not compatible with an early w123 car? Thanks!

What's the transmission number? I can look it up in my Passenger Car Data Booklet from 1980.

The underlying answer is yes. Both are 722.1xx transmissions.

Whilst the transmissions are both 722.1s I think you might have to be a little bit more careful.

Looking on EverythingBenz - Mercedes-Benz Forum and Web Search Using Google the transmission for a 75 300D (240D 3.0 to be specific) is a 722.109

The 79 300D 123.130 has a 722.118. There are two types of 722.118 transmissions though - one with vacuum one with out. Check out the throttle linkages. There could be some messing about needed...
