w116 300sd Child Car Seats
How safe are child car seats installed inside a w116 300sd? Any tips on installing 2 child cars seats. The w116 stock shoulder/lap belt goes thru the car seats fine but the car seats are loose and seem to move a lot probably due to the back bench seat being so cushioning. There is a lot of travel and movement both forwards(mainly the top part of the car seats), up and down, and side to side. The top of the car seat cannot be secured to anything on the car. I thought about welding some latches somewhere near the bottom of the rear window frame but thats just a thought. If I plan to keep this car I have to find a way to fit and secure 2 child car seats. Also, proper installation of a child car seat requires the vehicle seat belt to be FIRST completely pulled out where then the such seat belt is run(ran) thru the lower opening then clipped onto the seat buckle. This procedure or action eliminates the worry of forward movement of the child car seat when stopping or not stopping. It locks the child car seat in place. Well my w116 is not equipped with the setup so when the seat belt is pulled out it can be retracted at will or it can be pulled out anytime you feel like it. I pulled hard and fast on the w116 seat belts and the immediately locked so I confirmed that they do work but when not pulling fast they just continue to have movement. Advice greatly appreciated....

I'd probably pull the seats and install a second set of seat belts to the same bolts with fixed adjustments on the belts. I'd also probably run some kind of belt up over the top of the seat back to secure the back of the child seat.
You should take this advice with a grain of salt, because it's coming from a guy who turned a car seat into a floating car seat so his daughter could safely ride in a canoe. Most people who learned about that **** their pants over my daughter being belted into a seat on a river except for a few very good canoeing friends who loved it.

Does your car have the child seat "mount" (a silver hook like thing) on the rear parcel shelf? If they're front facing car seats I'm pretty sure you need one.
It's mentioned towards the bottom of this thread http://forum.w116.org/test-drive/how-safe-is-it-really/ Here's a diagram http://automobiles.honda.com/images/2013/ridgeline/features/latch.jpg
