Wedding Material
Hey fellas,
So, I asked my girl if she would be OK with using my 300SD as a substitute for a limo if we get married and she said yes! We have been dating for about 8 months now and things are serious. She has seen my dedication to this car and the time I invest in it. I always put her first but she knows the 300SD is my baby and she gets it. I am grateful for her support in my hobbies and I give her support in her hobbies as well. It's all about compromise, right? She is interested and intrigued by my ability to do what I do and I think she would be a good wrench-mate. Heck, she has put up with me thus far! The 300SD still needs a lot of work to be ready for a wedding vehicle. I still have plenty of time since we are not yet engaged. I would like to know if anyone here has done a similar thing. The car needs to be re-painted and I plan on having that done soon. The interior is getting better every month as I am actively finding replacement parts or cleaning/repairing anything not up to par. I guess with new paint and polished chrome, a W126 can't look that bad! It is either a Lincoln limo or a Mercedes that I have spent over a year restoring. I feel the latter has more intrinsic value and to me that is a symbol of devotion and perseverance. Having my car for this kind of event would the ultimate joy after all the work I have done. Not to mention, she will never let me get rid of it! Come on and try that rhythm, Just let your heart beat with 'em,... and listen to that tick-a-tick-tick-tick-a-tick-tick-tick-a-tick-tick-tick happy little Diesel song!!!

Great idea!
Years later, you may still have your wedding car. Not so if you rent a limo. FWIW, I still have the car we used for our wedding in 1979. My Uncle bought it new, and we got it from his estate. He would never sell it, but we always got to borrow it whenever we came into town. My wife loves having the 55 Ford Sunliner convertible around. I still have the car we used on our first date in 1975. I used this car to bring home each of our 3 daughters after they were born. Next month will be the 39th ownership anniversary for my 64 Lincoln Continental convertible. I'm glad I kept my Lincoln all these years, and I'm very happy to have finally picked up my Uncle's car. They are wonderful nostalgia machines. Remember, it's one thing to years later get a car LIKE the one you used to have, it's taken to a whole new level to still have THE car you used to have. Jim

If we know nothing else about your bride-to-be we know that she has good judgment.

There is nothing wrong with a 126 as a wedding car !! If its all painted up & looks good it will be better than some tacky limo.

I have one question:
What are you still lacking in the interior? Sounds like you've got a good wrench-mate picked out!!!!

If this doesn't work then please tell me how to show pictures from photobucket.
If you get them, this is my 84 500SEL. The old geiser with the hat on could be me. [IMG][/url][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] Paul

Good stories, Jim. Nice car collection, too!
The requirement from the GF is that we tie cans to the back of the car. She's all about fairy tale endings and such. The interior is mostly intact but after 30 years of baking in the hot TX sun, plastic parts take a beating. I'm still on the hunt for a grey, crack-free dash, if such a thing exists. The front seats are grey cloth from a Euro 500SEL. Needless to say the cloth back seat does not fit, so I have a MB Tex rear seat. Waiting to find a perfect front and rear seat. I found some mint B pillar covers from a long chassis 126 and I am praying they will fit and that MB did not change the size of those. C-pillar covers are falling down as usual. I picked up a set last weekend but even still, so me of the plastic fasteners just crumbled away. I need to get creative and come up with a fix for those. Driver's door card has a crack in the top. Headliner is oddly dirty. I don't know what the PO did to get it all dingy.

Thank you eatont9999. Could you tell me how you did that? I have been around computers, both hardware and software since 1966 but don't know how to do things in this forum.

When I met my wife to be, I met her at Church, or I should say she saw me. I started going to the Bible class for my age group, and walk in, there are 40 hard up women, and three guys that looked like plucked chickens. I was like fresh meat walking in the door. this was Sept
I met her a time or two, but then couldn`t remember her name. great interest on my part and so many women. It wasn`t till after a Christmas program I asked her out for Coffee, and then saw her everyday after that. and in May 31 we got married. we have 27 yrs coming up. We used my 82 Datsun PU for the get away vehicle. at the time it had 95K miles on it, and still have it (in sig) and still runs but now up to 474K. she had a new 85 Mazda 626 with almost no miles on it, but we took mine. It isn`t what you drive as the get away vehicle, as long as it gets away. I will say having a Limo will be an extra expence, put the money into the SD. Iam happy for you that your GF now enjoys your passion for these old MB`s. having a good wife is a blessing, but remember. Happy Wife, Happy Life. Charlie

paste the link to each one, and it'll be in the thread. I'll edit your original post, with one pic, so you can see the difference. basically, the yellow box, puts the IMG tags on the link to the pics. what eatont did, was use the advanced post button, and he managed the images to the pelican server.

There are requirements for picture size and I believe it has to be 800x600 or less.

She drives a 2004 or something Mazda 6. She likes the car but keeps saying she wants a new one. I tried to convince her to get a MB Diesel but she does not like that idea. She likes my car but wouldn't want to drive it. Probably because she has never driven one...
