'99 W210 Nailing after fuel line/delivery valve seal change

Just did the complete fuel line replacement, delivery valve seal change, and glow plug replacement change on my '99 E300D with 110K. At first I got some godd nailing after intial startup but it went after after a mile or so of driving. Now 120 miles later it came back today after pulling off the freeway, then went away after a mile or so. I thought the first incident was due to the air working it's way after the fuel line replacement, but now I am not sure. Could it be something off with the the delivery valves? It never made this noise prior to the maintenance.

Assuming the seals were done in the proper sequence of torquing them. You could drive for a few hundred miles and see if the nailing clears. If not loosen them and retorque again.

There is a sizale amount of information in the archives to have a look at about this issue. You are not the first.

I'd take a look at your fuel lines and make certain there aren't any bubbles present anywhere while its running.

I had a louder idle after DV values. Lubro Molly Diesel Purge helped. (keep that small line for fuel thermo to prefilter - is a handy "tool" for purges) Didn't make it disappear completely. It quieted down after 500 miles and a DP, OR, I got used to the new sound and life was good again a week later.

Quite a few Members have complained of the same thing after the O-ring Change. The sound goes away after several 100 Miles.
It was speculated that the Delivery Valve had to re-seat itself but there is no proof that is the cause.

However, it is hard to differentiat it from the other things that can cause Nailing.

Also if you actually Pulled both pieces of the Delivery Valve out (Valve and the outer Valve Body). The Valve only goes into one end (because it is lapped into one end) of that outer Valve Body. They Put one or more rings on the body to identify which sid is wich.

Well 180 miles later and the noise is indeed gone! Did the torque procedure per MB and I am pretty sure it was just air in the system.
