'87 300SDL transmission not shifting after 2 month storage
This one has me stumped. It was running and driving great when I parked it in the garage in January. I started it a few times after performing a fuel filter change and other minor maintenance but did not engage the trans.
So far I have checked for proper fluid level (right on mark) and leaks(none), linkages, vac lines, and changed the filter and pan gasket and replaced fluid (did not drain convertor). I still just revs with no movement in any gear. I searched for 300SDL transmission issues and found many posts on missing reverse and missing 3rd and 4th, or stuck in first gears but nothing about not shifting at all. I was thinking about checking the screen filters in the valve body. Any other thoughts? What am I missing? (besides a working transmission) :-) |
Pull a cooler line and confirm fluid flow with the engine running.

Some, but not what i would expect. Front pump?

If you're getting any fluid at all, the pump must be turning somewhat. I don't know what might be blocking the flow.

does the car roll i,e, brakes not froze up,,, parking brake not engaged?
