Feeler: How much for a 1977 240D Manual everything?

My girlfriend wants to sell her 240D.

I'm currently at a midpoint in a mild restoration on the car.

Photos of various things done to the car can be seen here: 240D Photos by JoshuaWray1 | Photobucket

I have many new parts to go in it like:
-New carpet
-New shifter bushings
-New evaporator
-New receiver drier
-Tons of Dynamat
-New firewall grommets
-New trunk trim
-Used uncracked dashboard

There are many new items on the car:
-New tires
-New A/C compressor
-New windshield
-New battery tray
-New battery
-New-ish timing chain (12k miles ago)
-New-ish front steering linkages
-Replacement Getrag 4-spd transmission.

This is a project in the works, but the car will run and drive just fine (without a dashboard, center console and HVAC system which is currently being cleaned out).

Just wondering what it would be worth, since everything (including old parts) I've retained are here and will be sold along with the car.

Manual everything? Does that include a crank handle out of the front
grill? They are so scarce on the 240ds I have never seen one. Actually the car still has power steering and brakes I think.

Okay, point taken.

Manual transmission, crank windows, manual (as mush as possible) HVAC.

Better now?

Too bad she wants to get rid of it.

I think these 'feeler how much should I ask?' threads aren't effective or productive in selling a car. Whereas an ad with an asking price is both. I'm glad to see you placed an ad for the car, with an asking price.

I just hope that it is a reasonable asking price.

She has given up on me finishing the cleanup on this car. It's kinda sad, but it has been out of service and sitting in the garage for quite a few months.

I couldn't stand not having AC anymore and started cleaning it up. AC rebuild led to an interior refresh and I kept getting stressed out and sidetracked.

Now the anxiety with sequestration, and possible RIF makes for an all time nutty time. I can't see taking my car to a mechanic to do something that I am perfectly capable of doing. Especially when my pay will be cut by 20% here in the very near future.

It sounds like a nice car and I wouldn't mind finishing up the project...but I think you will have a very limited amount of buyers willing to do it. The price isn't bad but to be honest most people will see the state of the car and consider it a parts car....not many people want to buy a car and then put more work into it. I would suggest finishing the project and then raising the price. It would also be nice to add some photos of the car itself and just not parts as in the link you added.

I feel you.

I'm tempted at your asking price, but LA is a bit far, and I might be changing jobs soon.

Is it possible to sit on the project for awhile? Your circumstances that may be influencing you current feelings may change. If car is generally pretty sound you can probably get what it is worth later as well if required.

Some cars in my past I am really not happy even today of letting them go. In my case it was I did not have enough storage room at the time. Smarter would have been to locate some storage.

X2...

The car is 3000 miles away...

One day I will find a 240 manual at the right time, in the right place.

Best of luck.

I agree with Berry, if you have the space, just sit on it, untill this present stupid administration gets their act together. sucks you get a 20% punishment reduction in pay.

You have a nice looking 240, you know what you have, and what you have in it. the average potential tire kicker looking at it will just look at it as a parts car, when he could find one in driving condition for the same price or less.

It`s easy for us looking at a Monitor to know what your finanical condition is, your emotions (let along your GF`s) or if you have to move. that would be a cost too. you might be looking at the car as some instant/ready cash, but when it is spent, it`s gone.

Non-op the car let it sit till this game they are playing in DC is over.

edit:

I just re-read your above post, if it were finished you would keep it.

Yeah, I'd not overturn my life at the present time because of pending action resultin from the sequestration. I imagine in a few months that will all get sorted out without too many folks getting a 20% cut in pay.

Looking at the DoD side here. It's going to be 22 days of furlough. Why? That's the maximum number of administrative furlough days that can be assigned without actually doing a reduction in force (RIF) action.

Heck, if they don't get their heads in the game, then there will be a shutdown without a continuing resolution, or balanced budget by later this month.
