Is a w123 glow plug relay serviceable? (80 300td)

My glow plug relay is stuck on, draws pretty hard on the battery/alt full time. Should I take it apart, or just focus on finding a new one?

I'd run w/out it (unplugged for long drives), but it's too spooky not having a temp gauge to look at.

It's got three mounting bolts and the larger plug (out to the gp's and temp sensor) has seven contact points.

Thanks!!

Won't hurt to take it apart but if the Contacts are burned/welded together I would say it ruined.

the early style relays are hard to come by, if you have the old style you might want to consider upgrading to the newer one (involves some wiring changes though). i did a write-up on W116.org

That 3 legged GP Relay they used on the 1980 300d is rather pricy new.
Pelican Parts - Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche & BMW

I don`t think $735.00 is in any of our price ranges.
The 3 legged one for my 80 240D is around $450.00.

It`s just a relay, don`t know why they are so expensive. It would be best to up grade it to the later style like used in the 300D Turbo`s.

I have a 300D 3 leg relay I pulled from PNP if you are interested. I only pulled it because it was there.

there was a split in 1980 for chassis starting 211432; for models after that one they use the $99 relay
