Can anyone ID this bulb for me?

The bulb in question is a small bayonet type that apparently supplies illumination for the shifter positions in the center console of my 300SD. It is located under the horizontal portion of the console just to the left of the shifter. The bulb is missing from mine so I can't get any numbers off of it.
Just one of those small things that has been bugging me for a while.

Joe

Your local dealer should be able to supply the correct bulb, for a price, of course. Could be all of $1-2.

You mean those are supposed to light up?

I have a related question...with my '81 300TD is the light supposed to be brighter in the position you are in? I had assumed that, like the other console lights, they are always on but brighter when activated. My shift console lights are always the same dim state.

Good question about the shift lever position being brighter. I know that on my 83 300d the clear light bulb is red when it shines through the letters "P R N D S L" but there is no brighter letter when it is in gear.

I wonder if something is broke or this is just the way it is (which is okay with me)

If I get real adventurous this weekend (I mean if my wife lets me...) I may take the console off and see. My lights do not turn to red. It is not a big thing...but it MUST be a simple fix. That is, IF it is broke to begin with.

Lightbulb Bulb ID !

As I've got the center console presently removed from my 87 SDL, I pulled the bulb and checked it out.

It appears the same as one of the small dash illumination lamps. A small wedge style lamp that fits into a plastic socket/holder, under a magnifying glass the markings on th bulb appear to be " .PH. 12/1.2." looks live 12 volt , 1.2 watts.

!!$2.10 !! a piece! Man I knew my primeval scavenger instinct was right when I grabed 8 or 10 from the forest of wires dangling out of the clusterless dashes at the local boneyard the last time I filled my pockets with MB bits and pieces!

The MB part number is 072601-012230. Osram 2721. List from dealer should be $2.10

M.B. DOC,

Is that the part number for the bulb that Billybob is showing. If so then that is not the bulb I seek. From the looks of the base this bulb would be of the bayonet type. I believe it pushes in and then a slight twist locks it in to place. It seems to be different than any other bulb in the car! Is this possible?

Your bulb should pull out of that base. You reuse the base.

I hope I am not causing confusion here.
I am aware that the bulb pulls out of the base. What I am lacking is the bulb itself. I was just hoping to come up with a part number. I guess I could give Phil a call at FastLane. He's been pretty good at helping me ID part nos.

how do you remove the center console without causing any damage to the car because I need to do this as welll but am hesitant to. Also there is an upgrade to have a xenon light lighting up the gauges, speedo tacho etc. anyone know how to install this or at least get that console off? thanks

Your search is over

Greetings All,

The bulb for the shifter display is an Osram 2721 wedge base, Fastlane p/n P4042-18927 . Other places have them frosted as well if you want the display to be somewhat less lit up. The bulb is the same but it has a frosted glass.

Charles
