Because we can't have nice things

There have been rumors of pump shops that will put in bigger elements for ~$600 labor (you provide parts) but I've never seen a solid yes/no posting.

I am not typically a jealous guy, but that brought tears to my eyes. That is a beautiful rig.

In the performance section and over on STD people pop up now and then talking about domestic shops but they never come back with anything solid, or find out that they're the typical reconditioning to stock spec Bosch shops.

The best guys that have proven results are all overseas to my knowledge

There aren't a huge lot of qualified and reliable Bosch pump service shops around, and it's a rule of thumb that if you have X number, you will have X-minus that number who are brave enough to get into custom work. Even for extra money, custom anything in the auto trade can bring additional headaches and issues that many shop owners don't feel pays in the long run from a business (or sanity) point of view.

In Europe they have a much greater concentration of diesels hence a greater market for rebuilders and service shops for the pumps... which implies more of those will do custom work.

I remember talk on another forum/list of a guy in CT years back who was supposed to be very good. He was Hungarian I believe. But that was long ago, he could be long retired by now.

Was just thinking about this conversion for an old scout. Old Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection (Bosch Certified) has been building pumps in the Bay Area forever and has an amazing array of flow benches etc. He is more than qualified to do any of this work and can machine just about anything . . he prefers stock but I believe he would do what you asked, but will typically warn at the same time and most likely would not want to be held responsible for what might happen to an older (or newer) engine -

We understand the risks with modified performance parts. Can you get Gus's contact info?
