"The Aftermath" '82 300SD Dash lights and Turn Signal

Hello,

Thank you for reading.

I changeded out the steering lock mechanism and the ignition swith and that is fine now. Well I think it is.

Cept for:

Now that I am done- AfterMath

1. I don't have any of those Fiber Optics on inclined center panel, nor the tiny incandescent little light bulbs that fit into the 3 holes on the CCU, AC/HT, control. I see the Spider in the back up top but I think it is OK since so much "isn't working now".

2. I also have lost the turn signals also.

I looked for the Turn Signal Relay and I don't know if it is under the Radio or to the left of the steering shaft as you look up. This Black box has 14 pins on it and no power to any pins with key in RUN postion.

I checked all the fuses and cleaned a few.

I'd appreciate some help before I go any further.

Question:

1.Is the turn signal flash unit under radio or to left of steering column in a tall black box with 14 pins?

Is there something common that would cause the Turn Signal Flasher to go out and also the fiber optics and also the CCU unit incandescent little bulbs?

Something I knocked or disturbed working on the Ignition Switch??

I will keep looking.

Thanks,

Steve

Update:

When I plug in the 4-way flasher PB on the center console, inclined, I have the 4way flashers working.

I assume the 4 way flasher circuit and the turn signal circuit are both powered by the "Flash Box" to the left of the steering column.

So now I'm thinking is part of the Black Box or the Turn Signal input from the lever on the column.

Roy said that my 4-way button may be bad and to cycle it. This needs to work to have the turn signals to work, or problem is in the turn signal lever switch on the column.

When It Rains It Pours.

Any input?

I started engine and turned the wheel back and forth left to right using the turn signal before each turn. All seem fine and resetting to center postitioning of turn signal lever working. In other words it appeard mechanically normal, how it sounds and operates. Never had any problems with turn signal before changing the Ign. Switch and steering lock mechanism and tumbler.

Center Inclined Console fiber optics back and lights back for CCU also on center console WORKING !

Found the Rheostat in a postion that would not let these lights work.

Cleaned fixxed contact, easy to get to with Cluster out, and all OK with the lights on center inclined console.

Now still trying to find out why Turn Signals not working.

Any input?

i would start by trying to clean the 4 way flasher button first; i'm sure there's a way to check it for correct function too. do you have the W126 shop manual?
also, look at this thread:http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s-se-sec-sel-sd/1294696-300sd-turn-signals-stopped-working.html

For the turn signals, it sounds like you may have disturbed the connector located to the left of the steering column. It is accessible by removing the knee panel but difficult to see without removing the instrument cluster.

Thaanks Shadetree and Blue!

Yeah your both right. The 4 way flasher buttun has to be installed and also I did a lil more than disturb the plug to the central flasher, , I left it OFF !

Yes I have the Factory CD's and they are helpful.

What really upset me is the Previous Owener(S) had installed what I think to be an after market "something" that looks like some sort of alarm system and there were 2 relays taped together and stuck up into the dashboard in a nest of stacons and wires. I concerns me that somebody would actually install anything aftermarket other than a radio, especially a complicated alram system if that is what all the wiring is about.

I really haven't looked at it closely but it made me thing " Did somebody reengineer this turn signal"?

Well turns out this is not the case and all I had to do was put on the big plug to the flasher (TY Blue) and put back the 4-way button in the dash. (TY shadetree)

You all have a nice Easter.

Steve

Figured I'd fnish up this thread:

Well I was lucky to have a fellow Forum Member come to the rescue and sell/ship me a good but used CCU. Thanks Shadetree !

This old one that did not work was overhauled by Programma and it had seen better days.

Everything is just peachie now.
