Question Shut Off Valve

My 1984 300 SD have a bad shut off valve at injection pump.
Before removing it from car I need to know the part number of this part.
This OEM part is fairly expense and I am trying to do it for cheap.
As I have an old pump removed from a 240 D I want to know if a valve from 240 D will work on a 300 SD. The one from 240 D part number is 1427133091.
Any idea about it will help.
Thanks

Since this valve is very close to the oil filter, there is not much room to remove and install the new one. Please let me know the easy way to do this job.
Thanks

Search the forum there is a how to available. Since you have a first gen 126, it has a OM617, which is the same engine as in a late 70s/early 80s 300D. The OM617 injection pump is similar to the pump on an OM616 found on the late 70s/early 80s 240D (except the OM616 is a 4 cylinder). That is why the stop actuator will fit.

Be very careful installing the valve on the IP, as it is possible to hook the valve onto the rack the wrong way. Instead of shutting off by pulling the rack to zero fuel, it pulls the rack to max fuel

One suggestion to verify you have it hooked correctly, is to use a mity-vac and pull vacuum on the replacement actuator. Make sure the "stop" lever moves like it should, before starting the engine.

Also before starting the engine for the first time, have a plan for how to smother the air supply with a piece of plywood, etc. just in case. Do not use your hand!

Is it the Shutoff Valve on the Fuel Injection Pump or the Shutoff Valve on the Steering Colum that is the problem?

Use clear tubing with the Mity-Vac

Use some clear vinal tubing when checking the vacuum on this shut off valve. I was checking one on a friends 300SD, gave it a few pumps on the MV, and oil was coming up the tube. glad I cought it before it got into the MV.

With the OM617 engine, it is tight getting the valve out, and it will get stuck, and you will call it various names. But it will come out. Not a lot of room between the IP and Filter Housing.

Use a 1/4" wratchet and a 10mm socket. I find laying across the top of the engine is easiest for me.

Most I have seen cost >$50. You need the early one with the "L" at the end, not the less expensive 86+ ones with a "rivet". I did get a ~$25 new one on ebay, but it soon stopped holding a vacuum.

Save some grief and get a set of ratcheting metric box wrenches (Craftsman, etc). They make the job much easier. They also make changing glow plugs fairly simple. I found the best way to install the stop valve is to hold the rod in with a vacuum pump until you get the rod in the hole. You have to work it past the oil filter housing and approach from the engine side of the hole. It is hard to work it past, but it does just fit. Make sure you twist the L up, or tilt it, to get it on the far side of the lever it pulls on. When correct, it should slide forward with no resistance, and when you pull it back you feel it grab the lever. Don't jam it in against the lever or your engine will race when you first start it (bad!).

My valve is already leaking oil. When I removed the vacuum hose to check with my MV I saw oil into the hose and at the vacuum valve. The MV read almost zero vacuum when pumping it. I need to have it replaced ASAP and as I said in previous post I have one IP from a sold 240D which according to Shertex,240 D use the same part used on 300 SD.
mThe lowest price found for a new valve is $ 88.70 at Amazon.com. Other online stores sale it for $174.00 and above. Thanks for your reply.

About the price I just search online and the lowest price found was at Amzon for $88.70. Other sites sale it for $174.00 and plus.
Your tips are really good and I will try it this coming days.
Thanks

If vacuumed when engine is running engine will stall when valve gets very bad and will take longer to be turned off, which is my case, when valve is bad.
I believe the second option is the correct one.
Thanks for your input.

Vacuum turns off the engine.

I just finished reading the article: How to replace a shut off valve. That is a very detailed lesson. Thanks for sharing that instruction. Very good and very detailed.
Thanks
