What year range for compatible parts on a 87 W126
I just purchased an 87 300SDL and I will soon be looking for parts. My question is: What year range is compatible for this model? My 83 300D Turbo could use parts from 82 to 85..
Any ideas?

Answer
It depends on what parts you need.

Yup. Some body parts (window lifters, seat frames, doors) are the same for the whole model run (81-91 in the USA). Some parts are specific to the Gen2 cars (86-91) (side moldings, headlights). Others are more specific to your year. And some are shared with other models. Confused yet?

In looking for parts for my '83 SD I found a '86 560SEL in a junkyard. One thing needed was a driver's side door pull/armrest. The center plastic post was broken on mine and I haven't seen any replacements. Thankfully the '86 interior is palomino like mine. MB changed the armrest design to one piece (which IMHO is a big step forward) for Gen ll. In looking at electrical there are a lot of differences (discounting the diesel vs gas stuff) between my Gen l and the Gen ll.
