190d air filter housing reinstall

I took off the housing from the mounting brackets to check my vacuum shut-off . Now that I am trying to put it back, its impossible to align. Is there a trick I am missing ? I am sure people have done this before.

any input on how to get those rubber pieces to connect properly while at the same time having the mounting brackets align correctly on both ends ? How do i get the bottom nut back on to the bracket ? Its impossible. Do I have to remove the entire manifold to re-install the air box properly ? I have spent the last two hours desperately trying to get it back together and i am sure i am missing something stupid.

Theyre hard. IIRC I used a 1/4" drive socket and put grease in the end and press the nut into the grease. I imagine your rubber grommets are all shrunken and loose, and that doesnt help either. You dont have to remove the intake, so dont do that.

thanks

So i am not the only one that has had trouble with it. A little relief i suppose. I was planning to take the pipes off from the other end since I am also chasing a leak around the injectors. I might have to do it at a later date but if i can't get this on in the day light time left to me today, the bolts holding the piper down on the other end are coming off.

The rubber is fine and its not loose. I just hope it was and it required a clamp or something to make it tighter. Would have made life much easier.

Also, what does the hose on the back of the air box connect to ? It disappears in the firewall . I wonder if i remove that , would it make it easier to maneuver the whole box then ?
