Hey! Is that a diesel turbo?
I'm driving through a pleasant neighborhood here in the greater DC Metro area and I see 123 wagon up on jack stands, owner working away. I take care of why I was in such a nice neighborhood and when I drive past again, the owner of the vehicle is still there while I drive up to his driveway.
"Is that a diesel?" I ask. "Yeah, its a euro spec 300D" he says. I think I have a new friend. I think. It was great meeting you DrDKW. I wish I was actually driving my 300D when we met, but I have a fuel issue I need to resolve. My wife still does not understand that it is perfectly acceptable to stop driving and ask another man questions about his car. - DC Josh |

mine has come around to the idea that i will stop and talk to a complete stranger for any reason... cars are the biggest. it has gotten me many great deals on parts, whole cars/trucks, and help.

But does she think it is perfectly acceptable to stop driving and ask another man for directions?

Yes, my car is an '84 Euro 300TD with 5-speed and manual-everything. Was curious why you asked if it was a turbo since the tailgate was up when you drove by, and the 'turbodiesel' badge wasn't visible.
Ironically, the turbos weren't used on the manual shift cars, but I suspect mine has the badge only because a PO replaced the tailgate. Todays work involved what I posted about on the thread 'What did you do to your ride today?' And more! Checked & serviced the RF brake caliper, Spotted a broken exhaust donut-hanger. Then disovered the entire corner of the right-rear passenger floor, where the lower bracket for the rear crossmember bolts up, was completely rotted away! Spent the rest of the day fabricating a repair section and temporarily bolting it in place until I can get some more hardware and finish the job. Since the rest of the week is supposed to be rainy and unsettled, who knows when that will be. At least I haven't needed any 'fun rides' on a tow truck lately. But I'm planning a trip to Virginia Beach next week so there's always that chance! Anyway, I enjoyed your visit. Happy Motoring, Mark

When you own these cars, you join a community. Just let your wife know that it's not only acceptable, it's most welcome to have someone stop and ask you about your car. It gives the owner the opportunity to brag to someone else who'll understand!

Cool. I had a young kid on a bike stop and ask about my cars. He was maybe 8 and thought they were neat. Don't think his mom was too happy with his interest in older rigs.... Funny how some get it and others just don't.
