New (to me) 240D

Guys - heading up Monday to Raleigh to trailer back a 240D. MANUAL TRANS!!!! I'll be pulling the trans, shifter, clutch bits, etc. and a local friend may want the engine - we don't know if it runs. Anyhow, does anyone need other bits? I'll keep the car about a week or so then off to pick-n-pull.

I haven't seen the car but I'm guessing it's rusty given the price. Interior unknown. BTW - I was at Cape Fear Pick-n-Pull yesterday and there's a 300 SD (IIRC) with a NICE blue interior - I think it's an '85 and I know it's an OM617 as I grabbed a banjo bolt that I lost so I looked at it. If interested in the interior let me know.

Dan

Dan,

If there's another manual transmission assembly in the trunk please grab it for me !!

I just got an 83 240D and it's my first 240. ( after the various Diesels listed below in my sig.) I have some work to do but for the $$ spent not complaining yet. Depending on how I like driving this one with an automatic there could be a manual t swap on the list.

Let us know how that goes & if you can document it to post here, that would be greatly appreciated.

Austin - so. Florida.

I'll be happy to document but I don't think it'll help many folks as the whole shootin' match is going into an S-10, race-only. Thinking this will be a pretty straightforward bolt in followed by a bunch of fabrication to get the clutch pedal and shifter in place. Amazingly, Hurst doesn't make a shifter for this application so I'll kluge the M-B shifter in place.

I'm hoping my homemade scattershield will fit the manual bellhousing (knocking on wood). Maybe I can just cut a slot for the throw-out arm.

I'm not sure how rare the manual 240Ds are. I stumbled across this one at a repair shop after about a day of looking, mostly on the phone. OM617 manuals seem to be more scarce from what I could tell.
