Please just buy the bushing and don't waste your money on having a shop do a compression check!!!!

When they do a compression check you will have to remove the injectors. That will require new heat shields. They will also remove the fuel return lines....that will means new lines need to be installed.

If the car is due for a valve adjustment, it will cause low compression numbers....

Also if that rod falls out of the bushing, you can cause an accident because the car will stop and not accelerate....

I have a feeling your not listening or looking at the photos or researching your problems.....

Thus I should just but out and let you do what you wish after this....

I was an A+ geometry student.. OK. so drove up to Delray Beach to my new when needed MB indy shop, Kurt at Kurt's European Autoworks. He went over the linkage with me and that bushing actually came apart in his hands so it is on order. #1 is I am getting full throttle which I originally checked and thought so as well.
# 2) He took a test drive and I timed him too on a 0-60 and he did alot better than my 43.8 seconds by shifting 1,2, D manually with about a 29-30 second time. Still slow but thinks the compression is pretty good but most important it is even compression. So if it's low it is not low on any 1 cylinder..
3) Yes I do need to also get new injection return lines which I am also about to order with the throttle bushing.
So his advice ( and a very nice guy who did not charge me for it) was for me to make the fixes and also lower my idle down about a full turn then see how it runs from there if I get better pick up.

....Thanks to all here who gave spot on advice .............

Now this bushing is suppose to look like this
[/IMG]
Below is my new Pivot bushing mount. The fact that my old one fell apart when I took out the cotter pin from the linkage saved me half the install time.

This did make a noticeable difference in acceleration and may have lowered my idle from the snug fit although I do have to check on it one more time. No more wobble.

... It is HOT here today but I have the battery out and working on the rusted battery tray.

After shots of 1983 rusted out battery tray after "painting" it over with "Corroseal" rust converter. ( all home depots and safe ; easy to use. Even interiors or indoors. Unlike por15 )

I wanted to remove the tray from the car first but the bolt in the lower left hand corner was stripped and it is like 94 degrees here and the mid day sun was killing me. So I didn't do the bottom of the tray but as you can now see everything is turned black which is no longer rust . Back to it's original form of magnatite and hard as a rock. This will no longer rust.

...next up , injector lines and air filter when they arrive.

There are things ahead that any 616 engined car should have checked. They are cheap to do as well. All contribute to acceleration..

Making sure that fuel pressure is adaquate. Plus transmission linkage is set up right as the mechanic was shaving ten seconds off your 0-60 times by manual shifting the transmission.

Austin, so glad you are making progress! Keep it up and soon be rewarded!

B.T.W., how off were the valves?

Fuel tank strainer cleaning is on the short list. Transmission seems to shift ok but will probably get that fine tuned in the near future. ( I don't know how todo that part.)

Have not had valve job done. No idea if they are off or by how much.

Just an ornery hint.

Removed my drivers seat today and repaired the 1 broken spring with metal brace using a steel molly jacket.

Also performed a successful pool noodle-graft procedure , giving me some extra support along the sides and front of my seat. Horsehair looked pretty good with no deterioration at all.

......

** btw Have a working Becker Europa AM/FM Cassette in my 240D and considering keeping it in for oem look, but the I-pod cassette adaptor won't stay inside the unit.

I have tried with a new Monster adaptor and my son's diff brand too and both eject after 1-2 seconds. Is there ANY way to remedy this so it won't eject??

If not the stations here in s. FLorida are pathetic and I'll have to go aftermarket. ( I have this posted on AUDIO want quick help.)

Thanks! Austin

Why didn't you go see Desi? I think he would have solved your issues. I don't know what will solve it, but you seem to be on the way. I'll guess that your valves are off for sure, and that will cause smoke and slow acceleration.

That is why I keep banging on about the valves! I can't imagine an air cooled engine been all that difference when it comes to valves affecting performance.

Austin, glad to see you are making the ride a bit more comfortable.

As for the radio, there is an adapter that goes into the D.I.N. antenna so one can use an iPod and F.M. band. Tram told me about it but at the time didn't matter as didn't have an iPod; I now have one but put it somewhere safe... That be the best way to do it as get the most clarity. My brother had nothing but trouble with his tape adapter.

You are on the right track of wanting to keep the original radio; sometimes I wish I had something less modern looking but then it means bread which I do not have...
