Are the cylinder heads on a 603 interchangeable with a 617?

Are the Cylinder heads on a OM603 interchangeable with an OM617?
Also is there any Mercedes engines that have heads interchangeable with those on a 603 turbo diesel? I have an 86 300sdl...trying to find replacement for my #14 head. Would like to find a #17. Thanks

603 and 617 are not interchangeable. I think you can use any 603 head. 300 or 350 sdl, or '87 124 (300D).

Both the 617 and the 603 are SOHC water-cooled 3-liter (turbo and NA) diesels. Pretty much every other parameter was changed in the transition from 617 to 603.

X2, to All that was said above plus, Not to mention One is a 5 cyl, and one is a 6, maybe that was mentioned too, try and make that work.
And if your looking for a replacement head, try to find a #18 or 22, better casting design, against overheating (cracking/warping) and future head gasket issues

if you get a 22, be sure and snag the injectors, and the lines... they are different from the 86/87 #14
