Anyone in SW Ohio?

I recently purchased my first Benz. Then my second. Then a third. I want to mod my 78 240D standard by swapping in an 84's turbo 617. I am hoping there is a forum member nearby that has done this before. Also, I'd just like to meet someone with the same Benz addiction I seem to have. I'm in Oxford, Ohio, which is equally difficult to reach from Dayton or Cincinnati. Looking forward to learning more about these cars. Thanks for responding.

Welcome to the Forum.

There are some members in Ohio, just don`t remember who though.
this will bump you up to the top on page one and maybe one will of them will be checking in.

The MB`s do sort of follow you home don't they?

Hey, Welcome to the forum from central Indiana. Sure you can. That 617 turbo will go into that car like it was made for. Hopefully your 240D is a four speed. That makes even a better car. If it isn't a four speed and you want one, I have about every part you need. I converted my 83 240D to 617 Turbo about 4 years ago. I'm pretty old and it took me a while, but it is just like putting a little bigger 616 in it. The 617 just uses up most of that open space between the engine and firewall on the 240D. Below I have listed the URL for the Russian EPC. Very easy to use. You will like it.

I live in coastal NC but I race in Wilmington, OH - I think that's pretty close to Oxford, no? Go to and look up the race dates as there's no reason to miss these meets!

If you come look me up. I drive a green and black '02 Dodge Diesel pickup and will be with a green and silver Avanti.

I'm doing a OM617 in a S-10 for race-only at the track. Should be moving under it's own power by next season. But I'm no help on your project. I currently have the 617 sitting on a stand in the shop and the 240D manual from an '82 on the floor along with the OM616 from the 240D. A friend will take the 616 for a project and the 4 speed goes in the race truck. The 240D is still sitting in the shop but goes to the PnP on Friday.

I agree that the 617 should slide in there pretty easily - there's room for sure. I was surprised how much room the 616 has behind the rear cylinder. Get as much of the 617 as you can - looks like stuff like the throttle shaft, etc. would slide into the 240D chassis (maybe they're the same).
