Can the onset of oil USE be sudden?
My 92 300D has 243k miles on it. I use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40. I'm pretty good about checking the oil level....I've observed very slight oil consumption.
My son drives the car...he called me to say that the oil light had come on. My first thought was a bad sensor. But, sure enough, the oil level was at the minimum mark. I don't see any evidence of leaks (but I do need to look more thoroughly). My question: Can oil use/consumption increase suddenly/dramatically, or is it typically more linear over time?
