Rear Tail light Seals

Hello,

I need to replace the rear tail light seals on my car. It is a 1985 W123 300D.
I remember seeing them years ago but can't seem to find them now. Anyone know of a good deal on them or what the part number is?

Thanks

A bead of silicone does a good job & is cheap.

I haven`t seen those seals anywhere. Last time I bought some was 15 yrs ago. They might be a dealer item.

I did salvage a few from PNP, but have to be careful removing them as they stick in the groove and will tare.

Last Fall I noticed a slight leak around the L/R light. I removed the light, and the seal. the seal will have a groove in it from being compressed against the body. I cleaned the rubber real well, then used some black RTV and carefully filled the groove so it was level.

After it was cured I reinstalled the seal and the light, we didn`t have a drop of water leak into the trunk all winter. actually I did both sides and it doesn`t show.

If you can peel the old ones off they can be renewed with glycerin. You can buy this at most drugstores.

Just pour it on and wipe it around. Very sticky, but the rubber the seals are made from will absorb it and make them soft again.

Then use a bit of silicone sealer on both side (just a little) and reinstall. This is all you need about 90% of the time.

The trick is to not get in a hurry and to remove them carefully.

New seals came with the new tail lights for my 300D, and the new seals are super tight. They displace more volume so you have to really press hard on the light assemblies to get them to fasten properly to the mounting holes.

Roy will probably chime in with a p/n soon.

Part number for the sedan and coupe is 123-826-01-58. You'll need 2 of course.

Thanks for the help and info.

I just had to replace my commuter so money is tight right now. I will try and revive my old seal as 25 bucks a piece is no bargin. On the plus side I got a first generation Honda Insgiht. The car is all ALUMINUM and I get 75 - 90 MPG on the way to work averaged over 22 miles.

It is a really fascinating car. Another example of great engineering. Plus no more rust holes.
