87 300D verses 94 E320 ride height.

So, my 87 sits level, with enough clearance to stick your fist into above each tire and the wheel well. This is on new Bilstiens. The 94 has a definite rake to it, maybe an inch of clearance above the front tire. Factory or aftermarket?

Personally, I like the stance of the 94 better....

Apples and oranges. Same shocks in same condition? Appropriate pads.

PO said it's always been like that, and looking at pictures of other they seem to be like that as well, so most likely factory.

It's that car I'm going to move stuff over from to the 87 once I get it back on the road. Played around a little more with the 87 today, discovery that my optimum red top is bad...6.3 volts... will not take a charge. Going to try the trick using a second battery to fool the charger into charging it.

the later W124 specially the last years of 94-95 had the lowest ride height, I have a diesel 1995 and its springs are the shortest of all diesel models and hence the stance is raked, it is also more obvious due to the body cladding flowing downwards to the front wheels. The early 124 had the highest ride heights which also includes your 87

My car was scraping itself on every driveway and also scraping the inside fender, The culprit was worn ball joints - they had about 3mm up/down play - this causes the unloaded condition to sag about 8 or 10 mm - maybe more. Its in the same dimension as the spring and its pads hence the drop happens.

After I changed out the ball joints on my car the ride height increased and sat at original stance - still raked though.

I have a set of heavy duty 124 rear springs f.s. in case someone wants to jack their tail end up, and you can put 400 lbs of tools in the trunk and two large people in the back seat and not have any sag

Let us know if that works, I haven't seen a battery recover properly after one or in your case, several cells are bad. And watch out for possible explosions.
