R107 Speedo Odo Inop:

Finally got around to installing my R107 speedo to match my 2.47:1 axle and the ODO doesn't work.

All the gears look fine, but I neglected to test if before rolling it up to match the current mileage on my car.

I thought perhaps I would have to run it a while and allow the gears to 'stack up' so to speak but that is just wishful thinking I suppose.

Now I have to send it out to the speedo shop....

Is there anything in this thread that can help?

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/275844-w123-odometer-repair-notes.html

(diesel giant's DIY is linked)

I don't know enough about the R107 to really help though - but there's got to be a DIY way...

Thought the metal gear slipping on the shaft was a big issue with Mercedes odometers. Lots in the archives I think. Easy fix if so.

They say to Loctite this, but it's difficult since you must slide it through the other number wheels and then into the bracket....Grrrrrr!!!!!

I agree, but how to apply it????

I cannot get my drive gear off (opposite the pot metal gear) so that complicates things!!!!

I think I used a toothpick to get the loctite onto the gear shaft on the odometer on my 300SD

Shaft roughed up if possible to help adhesion? Most forms of instant glues should do. A cheap syringe and needle might be worth trying if it is really tight in there.

The druggist may look at you as a junky was my apprehension originally the first time. Since then I use them for precision oiling and other things depending on their size.

When you ask for only one they will usually give it to you. If not they are usually about a quarter.

Still are but probably not locally where he lives. I get them from china as a weight filler on occasion. Oddly enough some instant glues that are expensive in north America are manufactured in the usa and sold really cheaply out of Hong Kong.. My experience with the Chinese aerospace programs epoxy was great as well. Had some charactaristics that were superior to any I have ever used before. Not always available though. Unbelievable strong bonds.
