Ready for summer!

No wonder!

Ambient temps ~65F with overcast skies, max cooling, min blower speed. R134a!

Temps fluctuated from 0C to 4C, averaged at 2C. I need a gauge with negative degrees Celsius!

Turned up the dial to 18C, while still using minimum blower speed. Thermometer read between 8C and 10C, averaged 9C. After staying in 0C vent temps for a while, 9C vent temps felt warm!

On my drive home, the dial was set to 18C. But the thermometer read the same as it would in max cooling (0C to 4C cycling back and forth, averaging 2C the whole drive). Ambient temps on drive home was 75F.

What vent temps do you guys usually get?

The wagon is currently in need of a new compressor, but last summer I measured 40 degrees +/- from the vents. R134 as well.

Are you still running the R4?

Matt, that's pretty good! Do you have the original compressor too?

Surprisingly, yes! That is a great thread, I was looking for it but could not find your thread. I know folks who have converted to the Sanden type years ago before it was a familiar W123 enthusiast term over here, but the availability of finding one that would work was not that known.

Current ambient temps are not *that* high yet around here, maybe around 82F still so it's not yet a true test like yours demonstrated, but it's a pretty good baseline point established right?

How did the 7-cylinder Sanden perform in comparison?

I have everything hooked up, but not charged yet. I am having engine problems with the car now, but will let you know how the SD7H15 works after getting the engine problems sorted out....Rich

Idling in the sun during mid-day today, it was a little bit warmer - around 82F outside, with 4 people onboard, I noticed vent temps of about 41F (5C). I'm also surprised at how much quicker the AC system cooled down the cabin compared to a few months back when the refrigerant was much lower.

Welcome to the frostbite club! Do the w123 cars cycle the compressor to prevent condenser icing like w124 cars?

Forgot to update this thread. Few weeks ago the temps around here soared to mid to high 90's. Probably around 95F.

The best my car could do, with original parts except for the condenser and climate control pushbutton unit, was maintain 7 degrees C (about 44.6 degrees F), at a sustained 3000 RPM with blower on auto and thermostat to max cooling. Not bad for a R134a conversion.
