1984 300TD wagon needs inj & lift pump

Found a nice looking 84 300TD wagon . Owner says it needs a new injector pump & new lift pump . A/C compressor replaced but thinks it needs a new PCV valve.

What am I looking at far as cost if this is what is actually needed? ( and does the trick to get the car up & running.. ) It is not able to run now . It is out of state for me.

Thanks,
Austin

Have you confirmed that the owner knows what they're talking about?

So many times we see people dump cars because they don't know how to troubleshoot them and they don't know about great forums like these...

A rebuilt IP can run several hundred dollars. You can get one from a P&P for ~$100.

I think I remember this one, its a veggie burner....owner had a 2 tank system but used the main tank as the veggie one.....he gunked up the system and can't get it to start....the factory lift pump wasn't connected.....he said he is just going to buy another wagon and do it over again.....can't remember where the thread is....

Dunno if it is or not but here's the thread

If its not, I would suggest it has a bad IP due to incorrect wvo use.....so tread with caution....

Best to do a compression check of all cylinders, but that is quite involved. I don't know why both the lift and injection pumps would be bad. If just the lift pump, you can bypass that and use an electric pump (~$35 ebay). You could try hooking one up as a test before you buy, but then if you get the engine running, he might jack up the price. I might offer low (~$500) for the risk the engine is bad. These cars are showing up in the junkyard regularly, so you won't have to pay >$700 for a good used engine like in the past.

Yes. We talked and it is Byron's wagon. It's a tough one. I would like this wagon too. He also has an issue with the A/C system. Said the compressor & drier were replaced by a dealer prior to them selling it to him. It ran ok for about a year last summer but this summer it only blows HOT. Not warm. I do not know what this problem is. He is thinking pvc valve is bad... I am offered working used Inj pumps for $125 here. On top of these things I am 700 miles away in Florida.. I do not mind coming up to NC to pick up a good deal, but right now it is not sounding like this is one. Thinking offering less, and staying up there until I can get it roadworthy to drive it back home ....

I have first hand experience with rescuing a veggie burner, this is not a get it working and drive it home type fixes....you will need to trailer it and spend the rest of your life fixing the veggie mess....If I got it, I would first start by replacing the lift pump....dropping the tank and cleaning out all hard lines and taking the tank to a radiator shop to have it boiled out....then I would see how it ran with the original IP and injectors....you might be able to get it going just fine but then again the IP might already be destroyed......on my car I had to replace every piece from the tank to the injectors.....don't buy a used IP, if you don't know where it came from....go to pick n pull....and buy one for 50$....when you go to pull it check the spin on and what's left in the IP....and make sure its diesel......now you also have to remember the rings may be destroyed too.....it takes many many many many many many and many oil changes, filters and valve adjustments to clear the gunk from the engine..
