240d vacuum control valve ..how does it work ?

Hi. Does anybody know how vacuum control valve works? I installed 1982 240d in to my boat and removed all the vacuum hoses to the transmission including vacuum control transmission unit(because I'm using a gearbox) . I'm using vacuum control valve only to stop the engine. Lost all the power - engine is running but has no power. Any idea how to "wire" this valve and what is the purpose of this valve? how does it effect the idling or high rpm ? Thanks

picture?

We have been considering using our spare engine and would like to see a picture of your application.

I will contemplate your issue and speak to friends.

Bon Voyage

Are you using the MB Transmission in your Boat? Or are you using a Trans gear Box designed for a boat application?

The VCV is the whitish plastic thing on the top rear of the Injection Pump. this is for the shifting of the Auto Transmission in the car.

Lower down between the Injection Pump (IP) and Oil Filter housing is the vacuum fuel shutoff valve. looks like a small can with a metal nipple a vac hose connects to. when Vac is applied to this valve, it shuts down the engine.

The vent tube in the Valve Cover, should run over to the intake manifold on the 240D. 82 and 83 has a black rubber oil separator it goes to first then to the intake. If this is blocked off, then the Blow By pressures in the engine can shut the eng down by applying pressure to the Vacuum Fuel shutoff valve.

You could have a plugged up fuel filter, this will cause low power too.
A valve adjustment can do wonders also.

Post a picture of how you have it set up.

in a boat!? I want to see that too! Next we'll hear of someone putting one in a plane!

Diamond DA50 diesel single is new. They have had a twin for awhile now.

Cessna 182 Skylane JT-A
They have been threatening for years to get rid of Avgas (low lead)
So this is an answer to that. Diesel that runs on Jet-A (kerosine)

fuel shut off

I agree that the shut-off should be as God intended Mercedes-Benz style vacuum.

There have been a few other threads in the past with MB Diesel engines. think one guy had two 617`s pushing his along.

Thank you everybody!! but how come engine has less or more power when i aplly or disconnect vaccum to the VCVo-utput for shifting auto transmission ?? thank you.

That is a clean looking installation. by the pictures it looks like you are using a marine type gear box.

I did some searching and came across a few vacuum type threads, hope something in these will help. The VCV works the same in a 240D as a 300D?SD etc... it bleeds of vacuum slowly to help the transmission to shift.

Don`t really know why it would increase power or decrease it. there is the boost line from the rear of the Intake manifold to the Alda. this get plugged you will have a performance issue. you won`t get full fuel.

You dont need a VCV in your current application. disconnect it and chuck it away!

All you need is a vac supply to a vac switch feeding the Stop Diaphragm on the pump.

Sounds like you have the VCV plumbed in line with the Stop-diaphragm and this is causing partial Stop-Diaphragm movement, --which will limit rack-travel and fuel to engine.

There should be NO vac to the Stop-Diaphragm At All when the engine is running, and Full Vac when you want to STOP the engine.

Disconnect ALL vac-lines to confirm the engine is 'propped' right and runs as it should.

When happy, re-arrange the vac system--Without the VCV!

Don't throw the VCV away, sell it.

I agree, very clean install.
