anything special I should keep an eye out for when looking at a 115 to buy?

I've been looking for a clean body to replace my rusted out, but mechanically sound 123, and I came across what looks like a pretty clean 115 instead. I know none of the 123 parts are going to fit, but if it's a clean enough car I would consider switching.

Anything in particular I should look closely at when I go to see this car tomorrow? I know that rust is a problem on these as well as the 123s, and I know to check the blower motor for functionality.

It has a leaky trunk and smokes when cold, but has a recent engine transplant, supposedly a rebuilt one, new brakes and clutch. Supposedly has very little rust, too.

Woodrat, I have both a 115 and 123. One problem I'm having with the 115 is that parts are becoming more and more difficult to find. In particular, the radiator is a real challenge. New ones are only available for really big bucks. Otherwise, the 115 handles, in my opinion, better than the 123 and for sure the 124.

I was expecting it to be all rusty, and the kid who was selling it described horrible smoke and noise on startup, but neither were true. This is the cleanest, most rust-free 115 I've seen in years. Engine replaced with a MBZ factory reman with zero blowby, floor pan and trunk cleaned and painted, interior in excellent shape, except for the parcel shelf, decent tires, and everything works except the odometer and the radio. Even the fuel tank had been pulled, cleaned out, painted and reinstalled. Clutch needs to be better bled, I think, it releases really close to the floor, but it works.

I have no idea how this car lasted for days on Craigslist; I think I was the first person to come and look at it. So, even though it's gonna hurt financially for the next month, I bought it.

For $1600...

WOW!!!!!!! That is Beautiful. Good score, and good the kid thinks it sounds terrible, and that awful Diesel smoke.

I have that Hood ornament on my 123`s and the 126. Giver a little of the old MB Class.

Our neighbor has a 74 220D out in his field he would just give me, it`s that Pea Green color. but is another project to drag home.

Drove it a couple hundred miles home today, it runs like a swiss watch, and I can occasionally pass another vehicle, and cruise up smaller grades in fourth gear without losing speed, even!

For a couple of miles, the odometers started to work again, too, but then they stopped. Need to figure that out, and get this Becker radio hooked up, too.
