95 MB E300D - How to remove this pin? (Headgasket replacement job)
Hello,
I am replacing the head gasket on my 95 E300D and I am stuck at this point. I cannot figure out how to remove this pin - it holds the plastic part which guides the chain. I think it is called chain guard rail or something. The pin is threaded (when looking at it from the front) what looks to be M6 but when I try an M6 bolt, it barely bolts into the pin. 1. Does anyone know if there is a special tool for it and what is it called? 2. Or do you have a innovative way of removing this pin? 3. There is another pin below this one, just a bit to the right (towards the fuel filter) - does that one have to be removed as well? Btw, this picture is borrowed from the internet, I just edited it a bit. Thank you much, Mick |

clean the threaded portion with a good brake cleaner and compressed air, I've on occasion had to use a tap after it was cleaned to chase the rusted threads and re-clean it. You can use a 3inch bolt thats fully threaded with a nut and socket to pull it out.

That pin is one of two holding the upper chain guide. There's a puller available or you can build one with a bolt, nut, and a stack of washers, as was mentioned. The other bolt you marked comes out and is not a pin, needs no special tools (13mm wrench).
