Fan Clutch identity crisis
Having a little dilemma on the fan clutch for my w124 with the 603. The old metal fan ("metal fan" may answer my question) decided to become a multi-piece fan while I was getting on the highway the other day. Long and the short of it is I need a new radiator and fan blade. I think my clutch is ok, it was recently replaced by the PO of the car. It looks "shiney" compared to the rest of the engine compartment so I think I believe her. The clutch is firm when the engine is off and unless I mis-read everything I think that means it is ok still?
Issue is I don't have the fan clutch part number. It seems to have worn off. I don't know if I can just order the correct replacement fan for the 87 300D or if I need to try to find something else. I'm considering just switching to the 606 turbo fan/clutch setup so I know it's right but I feel silly spending a bunch of $$ when the clutch I have appears to be new-ish. I took a couple pics hoping maybe the w124 guru's could help me identify which fan I need for this clutch. Given that a metal fan was mounted to this previously, that may be the clue I needed but I wanted to confirm since it is pretty much a special order part I wont be able to return. If you're in the bay area and have a fan for sale I might be interested. Trying to get the car back on the road ASAP. Thanks in advance!
