What do you think of this w201 190d?

Hello Mercedes guys,

I would like to buy a w201 190d. I went to see a 1984 190d. Here you can see it starting up:

190d 601 engine

What do you make of the bounces that the engine makes after it comes off revs at about 5:43 into the video.

That car is ROUGH! I wouldn't pay much more than salvage for it.

I would wager that the tractor parked beside the driveway runs better (and quieter).

That car is really rough in every way and shows no evidence of having been cared for at all. I see no reason that you should pursue purchasing it. (If you had the appropriate skills to deal with its faults, you would not be asking us to look at the video....)

RARE 5 speed - I would go for it.

It looks like the engine runs OK and car can be driven. I would go for it if it is sub $600. My 190D was slightly better when I got it but not by much. Now it is my DD and I love it. All the cosmetic stuff can be replaced from 190E, loads of them in the JY.

Yes Bob, I thought it looked familiar (yours is the same color). The color is the only thing similar as Bob's car is to the one in the video. It appears to be a parts donor at best (not body parts, too much rust). $600 would be a fair price, but much more and you would have to put more into it than it is worth. This car looks too far gone to be a decent driver, but maybe you can work a miracle!

Hi Rich, you meant this one? It is the SAME car so anything is possible. I just spent $$ on a set of new Pirelli tires today so I hope the car will last for a while.

I guess I was trying to say that both cars are similar (190D 5 spd blue), but that is where the similarities end. Yours has a nice paint job, your engine runs smooth and quiet, yours does not have rust, yours has a nice (and complete) interior, etc., etc. I wonder how much the seller is willing to pay to have it hauled off?

Google works. That car is pretty rough, though. I'd keep looking unless you can get it for $400 or so and don't mind driving a total beater.
