The case of the missing sway bar

So, after driving my 300SD for nearly four years I now
come to find out that I am missing my rear sway bar.
No mechanic, tire or alignment shop I ever went to pointed it out until I took it to Ernie's
here in Sacramento. I'm going on a long road trip and wanted a pro
to have a look-see in case something was slipping past me.

I'm glad to say the car's in great shape--except for the missing sway bar!

Went to PNP and pulled one today. Some 126 sway bars have a center link on them.
Should mine? Don't see where it would hook up to in the middle.
Also ordered new links from Pelican.

If the "center link" that you refer to is a short arm clamped to the bar, it is to operate the leveling valve on 500 & 560 models. Not used on a 300SD.

although, if you pull the valve and shocks from the cars with the link, you could easily handle a lot of junk in the trunk... you'd need a pump as well, ...

I believe the attachment points to the rear control arms are different on the 560s as well because they have the anti dive suspension in addition to self levelling.

All the lower models (420 / 300 / 350) get the same (small) swaybar.

Yes, that was a 560 that had the center bracket.
Has anyone ever installed a self leveling system into an earlier model?
Not that I want to do it. Having a sway bar will be enough of an
improvement for now.
