trunk all messed up

i have a 1982 300cd my trunk latch stopped working one day, so i tried pressure and vacuum on lines under the floor mats even cut a hole behind license plate and pressure and vacuum on those lines but nothing bugded. so i final just cut a hole in the top of the trunk and pulled the linkage. ( tried going through first aid kit but couldn't get close and was moving so really needed the space) so my question is has any one used a hard line of some sort to operate trunk, i really dont want vacuum locks.

Wow that was a little severe....are you saying the key wouldn't work? Or the vacuum wouldn't work? You know you could have just busted out a tail light, much easier to replace.....I sure hope this CD was in bad shape, because now it sure is...

Key didn't work vacuum didn't work. The mechanism jam up pretty bad, thought about tail light but had to to a long drive and needed the lights. Didn't want to drill next to key because didn't know where the release was excactly. And I'm shaving all emblems so for me getting another trunk isn't a big deal ( but yes the body is rough any way and is getting redone) but what I'm looking for a mechanical setup don't want anything on vacuum minus brakes and engine shutdown

I did the below before I fixed the Vacuum. Before I put a real Cable in I just uses a wire.
Also I think the Cable requires you to leave the Trunk Lock Tumbler in one position.

If you have the Master Key it is supposed to open the Trunk. My Car only came with the Valet Key and it does not work on the Trunk.

Drill a hole next to the keyhole and slightly up. Then you can just stick a screw driver in there and push the latch to release the trunk. I have done this on a few cars in the junk yard.

An emergency pull cable routed to the inside of the cabin is a good idea.

I have seen some pull cables on some 123`s. think it was the 85 model as I remember, but maybe was an option. under the seat cushion on the left side is the loop for it. lift up the seat and if there you will see it.
