Absurd Cruise Control Comment

This is from a well-known parts supplier (hint: in same state as the Grand Canyon)....In the notes for the rebuilt cruise control amp for a 93 300D, it says:

Programa (OE Rebuilt)
Cruise Control Amplifier; Updated Amplifier Unit
This unit is the Mercedes replacement unit for numerous older versions. Will require appropriate Mercedes coding part for proper function and may require slight wiring modification on some models per Mercedes TSB. Most failures are found in the coding part not the amplifier, we cannot accept amplifier return for warranty without corresponding proof of purchase of new coding part from Mercedes. 1 per car. [emphasis added]

That's ridiculous. Neither GDL nor our own James Dean has ever found an amp gone bad because of the coding part.

The coding part contains only some resistors. They are unlikely to fail (unless exposed to high levels of Large Hammer). Even then, it would be unlikely to cause further damage. I can understand the supplier's reluctance to accept returns of an electronic device, especially a rebuilt one. They could have come up with a better justification though.

These CC modules are all over the JY.

Sadly none are close to me! The yard closest to me has modules that I already have plenty of!

Two years ago I bought a lot of like 40 off a forum member, which I could do that again!

Yeah, I've found a lot of stuff breaks under that.

Taking after that great country philosopher John Henry, I always use "my wife's cooking chicken soup.". When you don't want to do something, one excuse is as good as another.

I saw a company with horrible reviews on remanned ECUs. They must get alot returned.

People have sent me in a few "remanufactured" cruise contorl units. Of the two that I took apart and looked it the remanufacturer didnt replace any of the aged components that likely should have been replaced to earn such a title.

That's the impression Peter at GDL has of the Programa units.

I was hoping it was just a fluke on one unit but seems not then?

I've opened up Beckmann and ProGrama units, same story on both.

But the PARTS SUPPLIERS insist that Programas are just fine....never have customers complaining about them, etc....
