Bowden cable: how on earth does it come out of the transmission? Aaaaggggghhhhh....

Can't figure out for the life of me how this thing comes out. I need to drop my transmission and would rather not cut the cable. How does it come out of the transmission?

I'd have to mangle the accelerator linkage to get it out of the clip in the linkage... I'll get some pictures up.

I can tug the cable sleeve out of my other tranny, (not sitting in a car -- easier to access), but the cable is still there. Is there a hook I have to undo? I was reading about a hook somewhere.

Valve body is no biggy - just don't get the inside of the transmission dirty - dust storms not good.

You drop the pan, extend cable down into trans and unhook it. Its not hard once you're looking at it from the bottom.

YEP

I did drop the pan and VB of my E300D and found the problem with my 1000 rpm early shifts at WOT, there was some lost movement in the linkage (someone tried to fiddle with it before and sort of bent it too)

Connected it properly and tested it full movement achieved. replaced VB and drove the car (albeit being smashed from behind) and I got the 5400 rpm upshift from 1-2 and 2-3. WOW.

VB almost out (two more bolts) -- but I had to abort because I need to eat lunch and then go to class. I threw all the parts I got out so far into the sandbox to keep them safe.

Too late -- it's out! But I forgot to actually disconnect the silly cable! So I need to drop the pan again tomorrow and do that... what an idiot .
