Question What oil do you use?

(I also posted this as "Concise Oil Survey" on superturbodiesel with a poll)

Note:

Hey Guys, since peoples experiences with oils are all over the place I thought it might be fun to run a quick poll of peoples preferences and experiences.

----------------------------------------------
Suggested Format:

-Preferred Oil Type- Weight, etc; Synthetic/Dino; Price paid per Gallon or Liter

-Miles on engine-

-Oil change interval- Cost/Miles=?

-Notes on Oil:

e.g. -Why are you running this oil? Soot control, cheap, noise, etc.
-----------------------------------------------

In my big dodge cummins I run 1/3 Rotella synthetic and 2/3 rotella dino 15w40. I like to change about 7K but sometimes run over that. 162K miles on motor.

Let the Games Begin!

Another oil thread! Yipee!

I use Shell Rotella T6 5W40 in my '83 300D and in my '07 Kawasaki Ninja 650R. It meets applicable standards for both, so I only have to keep one motor oil on hand.

I use Shell Rotella dino 15W40 at 5-7K interval. I noticed less nailing when I changed to Rotella. (I'm approaching 150K on '90 350SDL)

1998 E300D
  • Mobil 1 TDT 5W40 for years
  • 189,000 miles
  • 10k mile intervals or one year, whichever occurs first
  • Cost/mile? Don't know but it can't get any cheaper for all the goodness this oil provides
  • Reasons: cheap, engine is spotless inside, consumes no oil, soot control far in excess of what's needed, offers exceptional year-round performance and it's cheap

M1 5w40 TDT in my OM601/190d, Rotella T6 in my 300SD, and M1 15w50 High Performance in my 420SEL/M116.

The TDI uses its special Castrol low-ash diesel oil from the dealer...I don't change that one.

Brother's E320 uses 0w40 M1 euro car forumla, both of my dad's cars use Rotella T6, and my uncle runs 5w20 M1 in his Crown Vic Interceptor.

No idea whats in my sister's VW, probably 0w40 M1 or something.

That about covers it. Oh, my lawn machine has Shell SAE30 dino oil in it...

I have been using Delo 400 and/or Walmart house brand (was told it is Rotella) 15-40 in all my Diesels since I got the 'Benz Diesel "disease". I like to change at 5,000 intervals because it is easy to remember.
