In my 300 D Turbo, I need to replace bulb(s) that illuminates the sunroof switch, antenna switch, etc. in upper console. All else is fine. The rear defroster lumminates when the switch is activated. Bill has indicated that I may be after one bulb deep in the console with fiber optics running to each switch. Has anyone made this repair? I would appreciate any help.

If yours is like mine, and I believe it is, there is a single bulb back behind the upper console, from which all those fiber optics radiate. I believe that bulb is the same bulb that is used in the instrument cluster. I just remember when I had everything disassembled replacing with an extra of the instrument cluster bulbs. But I also seem to recall that there were 2 different bulbs used in the instrument cluster.
If you remove the panel and switches, look back there and you'll see the mounting. It's a little bit of fun getting the fiber optic cables in the proper way with the switches, however...

It's not too hard to get to that fiber optics bulb. If you can just remove the ashtray and radio, you should be able to see it back there attached to the heater box.

just had the same thing happen to mine- took out the top switch panel and fished around a bit, took out far left hand switch fiber optic cable (so as to see the lighted tip at the end) shook up the cables a bit then turned on lights and sure enuff had a bright tip!
maybe the cables got pinched somewhere down below
resinstalled everything-tested out ok.

suggest try this first b4 going for the bulb end which appears way more dificult to get to
