Question 300SDL turbo charger - Urgent Help

Please educate me on turbo charger. I bought a KKK turbo charger part # 002 096 9899 and it supposedly would fit a 300SDL. They are different when I compare it with the one I removed from the car. The old one is about 1" longer with AirResearch stamped on it. These are the main differences.

1) It looks the same with all the fittings, i.e. it will fit the space and mountings.
2) It is 1" shorter. I can make do with the in-take boot if necessary, so not an issue.
3) It seems NO vacuum line needed. I cannot find the inlet. Why? What is the vacuum for? Will it perform the same without the vacuum line?

Some pictures with the turbo side by side. Would it be compatible? The new turbo spins better and seems to be less oily inside the turbine. The problem I had was the engine was blowing excessive smelly smoke and very irritating to the eyes.

Any help is appreciated.

IIRC the '86 SDL federal version did not have ARV. That's a good thing if you can make the inlet hose fit.

gsxr has pictures of a 603.96 KKK with ARV:

Hi Sixto. This turbo is what I got now, 002 096 9899. The old part # is 002 096 9299. It seems my turbo does not have the vacuum inlet, (ARV ???), shown on the top left of the first picture.

Are they compatible? Would I lose any functionality? I know nothing about turbo. The inlet host would fit, it is the exact diameter. I think I can stretch the hose a bit and clamp it just at the lip.

Thanks

ARV is an emissions device I think to get the trap to operating temperature sooner or something like that. Cap the vacuum line and be glad you're rid of it. I don't know about compatibility other than it's compatible enough. gsxr says the Garrett 'equivalent' has a larger compressor so like Marty Feldman as Dibgy Geste said, "We were identical twins but Beau was more identical than me." Aside from the intake hose, do the oil supply and drain fittings from your Garrett bolt up?

Thanks Sixto. I did some research and the 2 parts are kind of the same. Everything bolt up and the car is up and running. It is not ideal as it still smokes a bit. I am going to check the injectors next. I spent very little money on the turbo so it is money well spent.
