Dual Forum Membership

Well, I have been mostly active in a different forum but would like to make more use of this forum as well because it has been a source of many great DIY links.

So let me tell you about my car

After going to the Mercedes-Benz museum this summer in Stuttgart I decided to come home and buy a 1982 Mercedes 240D. After a month or two it became my daily driver when I sold my 2001 Mercury Sable.

So here is a summarized list of what I have done to my car and what I would still like to do.

Completed:
-All filters replaced (fuel, air, transmission, oil, P/S)
-Differential oil changed
-Valve adjustment (a few times)
-Transmission and motor mounts
-Changed oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid
-Flushed coolant system
-Replaced antennas mast
-Replaced A/C drier, compressor, expansion valve and recharged with EnviroSafe
-Replaced primer pump and return lines
-Replaced glow plugs and reamed holes
-Replaced shift linkage bushing
-Replaced injector nozzles
-Replaced rear window seal
-Repaired rusted exhaust pipe
-Fixed central locking system
-Replaced shut off valve
-Rebuild front ends suspension completely minus new springs
-Had windows tinted
-Re-cushioned back to rear seat as horse hair was deteriorated
-Removed front passenger fender to fix rust
-Removed sunroof tray to fix rust
-Replaced oil pan gasket
-Replaced manifold gasket
-Fixed odometer
-Got all power windows operable

I think this is all the major stuff…

Still trying to:
-Fix the cruise control

Want to do:
-Replace driver seat back and arm rest as they are faded. Let me know if you have anything in palomino
-Fix the rust on doors and trunk pockets and then a total repaint
-After repaint replace the hood cushion
-Check the intermediate shaft play
-Make the A/C a little cooler by messing with the ETR (I think that is what it is called)

That's all I can think of for that now too.

Trips taken:
-Drove up to DC then to the Benzfest in PA.

Awards won:
-Highest Millage vehicle (around 333,000) at the Benzfest.

Well, I think that is it for now!

I actually don't have that many pics

I just thought of a couple other things I want to do.

-Replace brake pad sensor connector and sensors
-Replace 3/2 way valves for smoother transmission shifts

Here is a picture of it after I got the windows tinted

The door rust is mostly on the driver side.

And one of the sunroof tray

Everything I have read about those Valves indicates they are there to operate the EGR; at least on My year and Model.

When those Valves become the source of a vacuum leak is when they can effect other vacuum users like the Transmission.

I have removed them because they were leaking and have the vacuum rerouted. But, there was two. Seems it would be weird to have two for just the EGR. Does your's have two?

Nice looking car. Seeing that Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart is definitely on my bucket list. I'll bet they have some fine examples of the W123, those were some good years

Thanks!

They have an, in my opinion, ugly green wagon and one that was up on a truck. They also have a w123 race car. I didn't take any pictures of the w123 because they were either in a bad place, or just ugly lol.

On my bucket list is to own a gullwing

I see you have the rare Betty Boop floormat option. Most folks went for the Yosemite Sam mudflaps.

Those optional floor mats came with vehicle and once I got the A/C working, they were removed

Didn't know about the mudflap option

The info I got on those Valves came from the Various Mercedes Forums. Mine also has 2 of the Valves.

It seems strange that they would put two on the top just for the EGR. However, I did not notice a difference in shifts when I disconnected it. I thought this might have been because they were leaking and not working right anyways.
The only hard shifts I have are 1-2 and 2-1. I go from 1-2 very quickly. It would be smoother if I could just start in second

Nice looking car - kind of makes me miss my W123. I walk past it every day but it doesn't give me the buzz it used to now it is under a tarpaulin...

Thanks! What are you driving now? When will the 123 be resurrected?
