Trouble with the Trouble Lights
My trouble light on the dash was perpetually on when I turned on the headlights for night driving.
When I bought the car from benhoigan, he noted that a simple tap would get the lights on and the dash light would go out. I had some time and replaced the tail light when it would no longer light following a tap. The lights function perfectly but the dash light still stays on. Advice? Suggestions? The lights are working fine, it's the feedback circuit that needs some service.

If it were a 124 I'd say check closely the metal strips in the tail lights that serve as bulb holders. Over time the tabs that hold the metal strips to the tail light cover loosen causing poor contact between the bulb and springy terminals. I didn't think 126 were similarly affected but have a look see.
If the warning light comes on and off with the switch, it's one of the running lights or headlights. If it comes on and stays on when you apply the brakes, it's one of the brake lights. Some folks miss the license plate light when checking. If all the bulbs illuminate, find a replacement bulb warning module. It's the long one in the relay box. My '87 SDL warning light would come on over bumps and potholes. Something rattled inside the relay. Sixto 87 300D |
