Where is that vent valve??

The 82 300CD has quite a 'tude. Driving along today I heard the wierdest sheetmetal being hit noise.

Kinda a hollow THUNK, from behind me. Pulled into a gas station, walked all around, finally popped the fuel cap, after a bit of trying I got it to break vacuum with a whoosh.

Got it home with the cap off, pulled the trunk junk out and my tank has a divot where it sucked in.

I see what looks like a vent outlet/inlet next to the fuel cap, but where's the check valve (assuming there is one right??).

This puppy is moving itself closer to the fix and sell category, but I like the CD body so much I'm trying not to pass judgement just yet.

The hole next to the gas cap isn't the vent.....the vent is under the car in front of the passenger rear wheel.....it looks like this from underneath...

Feexed thanks!!

Mine was on drivers side but easily found with those pics.

No big fix at all, rubber hose had rotted and was clogged. Did a press/vac check to spec on the valve. Shot air up the open line and wife rogered it was coming out the fuel fill, put it back on with a fresh line.

Of course the 240D made me drop a quick ton at Pelicanparts for new lemforder tie rod ends. Got the front wheels off to check the brakes and the tie rods were sloppy.
