basically, the leaky o-rings allow oil to bleed back into the block, and this has to be refilled upon startup unless the o-rings are fresh.

Don't know what size they are, but I just installed them. Got them from the dealer, and there was 2ea of the same part. Not 2 sizes.

Perfect example of why I love this board. Information that you just don't find elsewhere.

I watched ngarover's video several times and estimate that it took about 4 seconds for the oil pressure to rise. I started timing from the moment the starter first made a sound. I was being generous, and the actual time is probably closer to 3.5 seconds. Could others comment on how long their own OM603 takes to build oil pressure?
I have replaced the o-rings discussed above with the two sizes recommended by vstech. My engine takes 3 seconds for the oil pressure to rise, after sitting about a week. So ngarover's experience doesn't seem that different to me. Can others provide their experience with a cold engine? Thanks.

My 90 w124 300d non turbo takes around 3 seconds or so for the oil pressure needle to rise to three on the gauge ,it has done this since I first owned it and I have had it for nearly six years. Despite new o rings it still takes time for the needle to rise and has covered over 50,000 miles in this time.
Check for air in fuel system,it is hard to see in the video if any fuel in the pre filter. I have had a partial blocked tank strainer and this caused air to be drawn into fuel supply from the many hose clips on fuel lines under the hood. Have a look at the clear line going into the main filter for bubbles ,the grey smoke at start is clear sign of fuel starvation (your glow plugs work ok as the light functioned normally) so I would expect fuel starvation from blocked strainer or a leak allowing air into fuel supply. |

In the EPC it shows the two o-rings as the same part, and I have never seen one of a different size sold anywhere....
