Anyone had experience with TireBuyer.com?

Fishing to see if anyone's used TireBuyer.com.

They do have many poor reviews, BUT I was surprised to find that TireRack isn't far behind....

(I assume I am not violating list guidelines here, as PP doesn't sell tires.)

I actually just ordered two tires from there this morning, so I'll let you know!

I've had decent luck with Discount Tire. Hardest part was finding a place that would mount and balance.

Then I discovered Walmart will mount and balance for $4! per tire and you can get a lifetime rotation and balance for $12 per tire.

I've ordered three sets of tires from Tirebuyer.com. Never had a problem and I recommend them to friends. The shipping was always free and the tires were exactly what I ordered. In fact, the set on the 300D right now came from them......

Positive for TireBuyer

They had the best price for the tire I shopped, free shipping and had a recommended installer nearby. Installation cost was very reasonable and came with a warranty for tires and work.

Had tires shipped directly to installer who called me when they came in and arranged an appointment.

Overall excellent tire replacement experience.

I don't put much faith in online reviews as there is no way to verify if the person posting has a legitimate complaint or is just being unreasonable.

Zach,
I looked at Canadian on-line sources for tires a while back (for my SL). I posted a couple of links here:

Eeeew. That would bug me for sure. The customized ads (based on recent e-commerce sites visited or google searches) on pages I browse are bad enough.

I think you need to look at your browser settings. There might be a way to shut them off.

Agreed, but I found common threads in the complaints: (1) shipping wrong size, and (2) shipping short orders, such as only 3 tires on a 4-tire order and then not following up delivery promises for the last one.

Thanks, I know about 1010 and PMC. PMC is pretty reasonable but I found 1010 was higher and the shipping was out of line.

TireBuyer offers almost everything at free shipping within the USA, which makes them a whole lot more attractive (I am less than an hour from the UPS Store in Ogdensburg, NY).

They offer brand name snow tires at $58-$64 each. Though the expenses of picking them up erase some of the savings there, I also save the punishing ~10 percent Quebec provincial sales tax and $4/tire 'environment' fee (which everyone knows is a joke, just a renamed extra sales tax).

However, the free shipping is what had me wondering (if something looks too good to be true, etc.).

I take the best online price to Discount Tire here locally and pay them to install after price match. Cruel I know.

I considered PMC when I last bought tires, but the cost of installation by a small local shop was quite high. I actually bought from MB dealer for not much more and eliminated some hassle! They were cheaper than local tire shops. But those were smart car wheels which are not that readily available.

If you picked up tires in Ogdensburg, where would you get them installed? And what would installation cost be?

Most of the small independent shops around here will install for $8-$20 per wheel, for new tires, on a walk-in basis.

Lots of people buy tires at Canadian Tire (for example) and have them installed elsewhere as Crappy Tire has a bad rep for hiring idiots in their shops. (Two guys my friend who owns the garage fired, for gross incompetence, were working at Cdn Tire witnin 72 hrs.)
