There's no restriction or anything like that. The issue is the joint between the pipe and the cat. I'm hoping it can just be welded and I go on my merry way.

I replaced the cats on my GTO with straight pipes.

Do you have inspections there?

Most likely vendors are ESW, Donaldson, or Johnson-Mathey. ESW is, I believe, a Canadian company so that might help. Great to have folks who are still in the biz.

OK one more cat pun

Glad to hear the "cat" has some more lives left.

You saved yourself some serious coin. Those things are expensive.

For future ref you can always citric flush it... Mine disappeared years ago much to the disgust of the cat thieves we have around here. Good reason *not* to have a truck or SUV. Makes it harder to sawzall it out.

Or just tuck it up in the engine bay and wrap it, after the install the resonator after the cat could be easily mistaken for a normal converter. The fiberglass itchies act as a great theft deterrent too

How did the inspector ascertain this? Was it apparent by just listening to the car idle, or is the inspection an underneath looksy by them?

Was the probable reason for the failure because of rusting through, i.e. the local environment there? Just wondering the possible of a failure @ just 73K miles?

Both sound and visual inspection....there were holes in the pipe.

The issue issue isn't mileage but time....15 years in New England will take a toll on an exhaust.
