240D vs. Deer

Hello everyone. I would like to know if a 85 300SD hood would work on a 83 240D? A deer and I met on US 220, the deer got the worst of it, but the 240D didn't come out smelling like a rose either. The record so far: 5 deer in 30 years: one with my 350SDL, one with my 300D 2.5; one with the 240D. sigh....

Do you mean an '85 300Sd or 300d?

The SD is a w126 chassis car, like your previous 350sdl. So no, it won't work.

A 300d is a w123, like the 240d, and that one will work.

Try putting a 'want to buy' (WTB) ad in our used parts subforum for the parts you need. You will probably get a fair number of replies.

Sorry for your vehicle troubles but the main thing is you emerged in one piece. A deer impact can be much worse.

A W126 hood will not work on a W123, unfortunately... the W126 is much longer, which coincidentally makes it a bit easier to drop the transmission without lifting the engine . I have a W123 hood that needs new paint but is in otherwise great shape (no bends, dents, anything like that) with a grill that you can have if you want to make the trek up.

Hogweed is a member who is closer to you and has eleventy billion 'Benz parts cars lying around . He's probably a better bet, unless you are coming up this way anyway.

In some respects you were lucky that you hit the deer with the slab front of a W123. Modern cars are designed in such a way that if you drive into a pedestrian (or some dork with a smart phone walks out in front of you) the body gets sent up and onto the bonnet. With a deer that is often disastrous for the front passengers of the car as these stricken deers often enter into the cabin via the front windscreen. It can be pretty unpleasant as the body mass of a deer is high up on those spindly legs.

Deer will do some serious damage and do kill and severely injure people.

As far as the insurance goes, your 240 is totaled. but we all know that is very fixable. I feel bad for you though. luckly you were not injured.
