190D 2.5- replacing glowplugs, what else to do with intake manifold off?

I got a new OEM battery and my car is still hard to start on cool mornings so I decided to check my glow plugs and sure enough #1 and #5 are bad. So I am going to change the glow plugs (and put in the upgraded glow plug relay) and ream out the glow plug holes and of course replace the intake manifold gasket. Is there anything else I should do while the intake manifold is off?

With that many miles on it, I would have the injectors rebuilt and Monark nozzles put in.

Yes I have figured that would be in order somewhere down the line, I was just talking to greazzer today about having them done.

I'm not familiar with the 2.5 but if you're upgrading to an afterglow relay and your car has a transmission amplifier, replace the dedicated gauge temp sender with a dual function temp sender - gauge and afterglow temp sensor. If you don't have a transmission amplifier, there might be a bung just ahead of the thermostat into which you can thread an afterglow temp sensor. The afterglow temp sensor connects to the 5th pin (actually numbered 6) among the small pins in the glow relay.

Well I was able to change glow plugs 1 and 5 with some old spares from my dad's 240D without taking off the intake manifold and the car starts up fine now. I have ordered the intake manifold gasket and am going to go ahead and get the injectors done and wait on full glow plug service until later. But that does bring the question: There are 3 temp sensors on the engine, a 1 pin one by the thermostat housing, a 3 pin on the head and 2 pin next to it, are any of those what you are referring to Sixto?

Are the 3-pin and 2-pin on the head casting itself or on the part the upper radiator hose attaches to? If they're by the upper radiator hose, those would be the EDS temp sensor (2-pin) and aux fan trigger/compressor cutoff switches (3-pin). The gauge sender is likely by the #2 injector. Question is, is the single pin sensor by the thermostat an afterglow relay sensor or a 50*C temp switch for the transmission vacuum amplifier. The answer depends on whether your car has a transmission vacuum amplifier (round blue plastic thing with lots of vacuum lines) or an after glow relay (small connector has 4 pins).

So I didn't notice it before but there is a second temperature sensor that is 1 pin that goes off of the water pump housing. I haven't been able to trace it yet. The glow plug relay itself has 4 pins for the small connection and 5 for the connection to the glow plugs themselves. Would the afterglow relay be a separate relay from the glow plug relay?
Edit: Also, is the transmission vacuum amplifier on the side of the transmission, as shown on page 5 of this? http://avtopedia.ru/akpp/722-3%20722-4.pdf I'm guessing no since my transmission isn't covered on that page.

Relay is regular- or afterglow. No separate components. Yours seems to be regular. The temp switch by the lower radiator hose fitting is for the transmission amplifier.
