001 540 79 97 vs 000 545 03 27

Hey guys, I'm chasing down vacuum gremlins and found a part that's leaking. These cars have 3 of these parts, all are identical (in appearance anyway) and the one I pulled has the part number 001 540 79 97. In doing a search I found a thread here that says these parts were replaced by this part number 000 545 03 27.
My question is that on the part I pulled it has 3 vacuum connectors up top and one on the bottom. On the new one it only seems to have two connectors up top and the one on the bottom. Are these parts really interchangeable?

Besides the fitting count, you should confirm that prospective replacements are normally open or closed as the original.
