Intake elbow
 

I dread doing anything in my car the involves removing the intake elbow. I replaced the rubber seals about a year ago (elbow was loose) now I can never get the elbow to seat fully on the filter housing or turbo. When it does seat fully, the rubber is cocked and pushed past the lip on the elbow.

I've tried different installations, with the rubber protruding from the elbow- this works best but still can't get it fully seated. Anyone else have this problem? Any DIY elbow replacements with something softer/more flexible? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Different turbo different engine but same idea. I had this on my 617 as well.

That looks nice. Really cleans up the engine bay. Is that a kit or did you piece it together?

Anyhow, they had the silicone adaptor hose from my new turbo to the intake on the OM617 (2" to 2 1/2") as well as T-bolt clamps and all was cheap. They have 90*, 45*, 180* in case you have to cut your own angle out of the 180, and pretty much anything else you can think of - in THREE colors! Red, blue, and black, though they were out of mine in blue so I went with black. Anyhow, if you have the diameters you're working with I'm sure you can find something that will work.

Sounds like yours is old and hard (no comments from the Peanut Gallery!). (Let's see who gets THAT reference).

So if you make a catch can I suppose the oil drain tube to the pan just gets pulled out. Does the drain tube inlet at the top of the oil pan need to be plugged? To keep debris out or whatever- there's a check valve there I think, so maybe it doesn't matter.

I had similar problems with mine a few years ago. If I remember right, the connection that goes onto the turbo worked OK once I put a little Armor-all type stuff only on the side that touched the turbo. I did not put anything on the U tube itself so the rubber ring would not try to move.

The one on the air filter end would never cooperate. So I ended up using a very very light amount of silicone caulk on the U tube and placed the ring in the U-tube and let it dry. Once it was dry, I put Armor-all on the side of the ring that goes on the air cleaner and slid it on carefully and it worked. I have never removed it since then. If I need to remove the air cleaner I only remove the connection at the turbo. It has worked fine for many years now.

It sounds like the U tube (elbow) plastic has shrunk from heat/age.
