What's te best way to install the 300TD and Turbo Diesel emblem?

I'm going back with the emblems on the rear deck lid and can't seem to get them to press into the little grommets (rubber retainers).
I have new grommets and the old emblems, and I'm afraid that I am going to break the emblems when I try to hammer the feet of the emblem into the grommets hole. I tried installing the grommets into the hole on the car first. Vasoline maybe help?
Should I install them on the feet of the emblems first and then press them into the deck lid holes?
Would a heat gun help.

They are a tight fit. Install the grommets in the body first, and then the emblems. A little lube will help.

Thanks guys for the pointers. I will try out the grommets first.
Then if I have no luck I will do the 3m sticker tape.

Mark the locations of the grommets on the body, and gently tap the emblems at that location to install them. They may distort a little, but they won't break.

Did you just have the car repainted? It looks stunning.

What, you mean something like a Volvo P1800 wagon + W123?

i installed the new grommets in the trunk and then ran and drill bit in each one of them and ever so slightly removed some of the plastic and made the holes bigger worked great. aftermarket grommets are the same size as the original mb ones.

Yes just finished painting her.
It's amazing how the higher end paints looks so much
Better than the cheaper paints. I used PPG.
I was going to Walmart and buy some rattle cans instead, but decided to go
this way on painting.
